Sorry, but no: Çardak Pide – Trabzon

Trabzon is very well known for its pide. We had only one lunch and one dinner in the city, we chose the “very very best pideci” for lunch, result : a huge disappointment simmered in a lot of sadness! Çardak Pide has nothing to offer! The pide is their specialty. The cheese has no taste or smell, the kıymalı pide we had was like eating paper. The kuşbaşılı pide… the only think I remember is the burnish of butter, not the taste, forget about the meat and the rest!

A place with a name, that is all they have. Will not return!

All I ever wanted is a good iskender. Bursa Kebapçısı at Ağa Camii Sokak in Beyoğlu, has a name for iskender. Iskender is a simple dish made with doner, pide, tomato sauce and finished with butter. That simple! The simplest things are hardest to find. Very ordinary, leaving your tummy with cramps, your mouth and mind with no taste memory iskender made us really unhappy. And being a small and old establishment does not mean they can have dirty tabletop. Will not return.

What happened to the Ikbal which we used to go and eat döner sandwiches even early in the morning? Well, sustainability is a monster for some. The big split is so appealing, all layer of meat on top of each other, you expect a flavour but the meat has no taste whatsoever, while eating or no aftertaste when you finish, nothing at all, it creates a big contrast. So disappointing! Ikbal’s time has come and far gone. Will not return.

I seriously did not understand what the fuss is about. Always packed, most of the people around me like to talk about this place. They sell only burger and potato fries. So I expected the burger to be a killer one. And it was not! Not in any of its branches. The burger was always dry, no matter how you order, no matter what they say about the so ” we always serve medium cooked patty”. And the burger patty is tasteless like paper. The potatoes were dull. Ridiculous. Will not return.

The word of mouth and the reviews said it is worth a visit. So we did. They serve iskender. And they are proud of it, so we ordered. One of the few times I could not finish what’s on my plate. I just could not! The döner was tasteless, the tomato sauce was hot tomato paste, the pide pieces are literally swimming in fat. Probably the worst I had. Not to mention the stinky dirty toilets. Will not return.

A very trendy place. This could not mask the bad service and bad food. Supposedly 3 mushroom pizza being served with tinned one type mushroom, cold coffee, stale, almost perished piece of cheesecake, topped with a berry coulis, which could not rescue it. Inattentive, rude service staff. I did not undesrtand if I am a paying guest or being punished… Will not return!
